CGS3 Lauded as One of California’s Top Boutique Law Firms for 2017

November 1, 2017 CGS3 News Release

Rapidly Growing Firm Featured in Daily Journal Special Supplement

SAN DIEGO (November 1, 2017) – Crosbie Gliner Schiffman Southard & Swanson LLP (CGS3), which specializes in commercial real estate, has been recognized as one of the “2017 Top Boutique Law Firms” in California by editors of the Daily Journal, California’s preeminent legal journal.

The firm, one of just 20 named in the leading legal publication’s annual report, was noted for providing outstanding legal services in the commercial real estate industry.

In the firm profile, published in the special supplement released on Oct. 25, the Daily Journal highlighted partner David Swartz’s recent representation of the Doheny Eye Institute in the $110-million sale of a medical facility to the University of Southern California as well as partner Fernando Landa’s role in the $35.5-million receivership sale of a medical office property in Encino.

According to partner Sean Southard, these deals reflect the founding partners’ vision for the firm as a concentration of all-seasoned attorneys. “Every client here is a firm client; no one partner claims ownership of any particular relationship,” Southard said in the article.  Further setting the firm apart, he said, is its “willingness to negotiate alternative fee structures and eschewing individual books of business.”

The firm’s vision and strategy for growth is paying off. Since it was founded in 2013, CGS3 has grown from seven attorneys and one paralegal to 20 attorneys and six paralegals, including the recent addition of partner Michael Cato, senior counsel Joseph von Meier, and associates Jamie Altman Buggy, Collin Waring and Cheryl Nieman Brechlin this past year.  The firm has been involved in some of California’s most high-profile projects, including the development of the recently opened Pendry Hotel in downtown San Diego; the Port of San Diego’s development and ground lease of the former Lane Field leasing and development projects surrounding the continued expansion of the award-winning Liberty Station by McMillin Companies and the NTC Foundation; the development of the SilverRock Resort in La Quinta, California which will be home to a 71,000 square-foot conference center, luxury homes, golf course, and Montage and Pendry hotels; and the development of two properties located in Mountain View, California for office and luxury hotels.
