San Diego Solar Energy Inc. Acquired by Long-Time Employees
CGS3 Helps Facilitate Transaction Involving Provider of Solar Energy Solutions
CARLSBAD, CA (October 21, 2025) – San Diego County Solar, Inc., a trusted leader in residential solar energy solutions for more than 15 years, has been acquired by two long-time employees, Tim Halfacre and Seth Tilley. Legal representation for the deal was provided by Crosbie Gliner Schiffman Southard & Swanson LLP (CGS3).
Founded by Michael (Mike) J. Davidson, San Diego County Solar has emerged as a cornerstone of the region’s renewable energy movement, known for its craftsmanship, reliability, and customer-first service.
“Under Mike Davidson’s leadership, San Diego County Solar has installed thousands of solar systems across San Diego County,” said CGS3’s Ulrick Matsunaga. “With his vision and foresight, San Diego homeowners have dramatically reduced energy costs and embraced sustainable living. We are proud to play a role in his company’s leadership transition and ongoing growth.”
According to Davidson, this milestone acquisition marks a new chapter in the company’s journey toward sustainable energy innovation and growth. “I am thrilled to pass the torch to Seth and Tim, whose dedication and expertise have been instrumental to our success,” said Davidson. “Their leadership and passion for renewable energy align perfectly with the values and goals of San Diego County Solar and I am confident they will continue to drive the company forward, ensuring a bright and sustainable future for our community.”
As new owners and leaders of San Diego County Solar, Halfacre and Tilley plan to build on the solid foundation established by Davidson, and to further expand the company’s reach and impact. “The primary motivation for homeowners going solar has always been to save money on their energy bills,” explains Tilley, a 20-year solar industry veteran. “But now we’re installing systems that provide affordable solar energy for our customers both day and night. That’s a game-changer for homeowners and for the future of clean energy.”
Halfacre emphasized the company’s growing role in meeting surging demand. “More families are seeking battery backup systems, full home electrification, and EV charging solutions,” he said. “At the same time, there’s a growing need to service and upgrade existing solar systems. We see enormous opportunity ahead, and are committed to delivering the same quality, service, and value for which San Diego County Solar has long been known.”
The acquisition marks a new era for San Diego County Solar, as Halfacre and Tilley plan to accelerate growth, strengthen community impact, and expand service offerings amid California’s rapidly evolving renewable energy market.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
CGS3’s deal team included Amelia Sanchez, Dorothy Groza, Phil Jelsma, Riley Cutner-Orrantia, and Ulrick Matsunaga – all representing the seller – bringing extensive expertise and dedication to the negotiation table.
