Annual Tribute Recognizes Lawyers under 40

SAN DIEGO (April 29, 2026) – Crosbie Gliner Schiffman Southard & Swanson LLP (CGS3) is proud to announce that attorney Ulrick Matsunaga has been named a “Lawyer on the Fast Track” honoree by Law.com and The Recorder as part of the 2026 California Legal Awards.  The prestigious recognition highlights top attorneys under 40 who are shaping the future of the legal profession through innovation, leadership, and impact.

According to CGS3 founding partner Sean Southard, Ulrick is a key member of the firm’s entity formation and tax practice and helped found its sustainability and renewable energy practice group.  He advises clients on sophisticated transactional structures and emerging green financing strategies, including Commercial Property Assessed Clean Energy (C-PACE) financing and related tax credit opportunities.  With a practice sitting at the intersection of partnership tax, entity structuring, and commercial real estate execution, he is a trusted advisor on the firm’s most complex and high-value transactions.  From intricate tenancy-in-common arrangements to multi-entity restructurings, Ulrick delivers strategic, technically sound solutions tailored to evolving client needs.

“Ulrick represents the very best of the next generation of legal leaders,” Southard said. “His rare ability to navigate highly technical tax and transactional matters, combined with his forward-thinking approach to sustainability and client service, makes him an invaluable asset to both our firm and our clients.”

In addition to his legal practice, Ulrick serves as a Professor of Federal Estate and Gift Taxation at the University of San Diego School of Law.  He is an active member of NAIOP San Diego, a supporter of the Oceanside Museum of Art, and a wildlife advocate with the San Diego Wildlife Alliance.

Ulrick earned his Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University and his Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law.
